Cantwell: This lad has made my team of the week before and I'm not surprised he's done it again. His performance away at Everton was outstanding. However, this was a bad result for Everton and even worse for Marco Silva. Liverpool are taking the Premier League by storm - meanwhile, on the other side of Stanley Park, their neighbours are hovering above the relegation zone. While Cantwell is a player, Everton have too many big names not producing big enough performances.
SONALDO' DESERVES ALL THE PLAUDITS The brilliant solo goal by Tottenham Hotspur's Son Heung-min in the 5-0 win over Burnley, promoted Spurs manager Jose Mourinho to dub the player, 'Sonaldo, Sonaldo Nazario', a reference to the former Brazil striker Ronaldo. The weaving, high-speed dribble certainly did recall the ex-Barcelona and Inter Milan forward and raises the question as to whether the South Korean is not a little under-rated.
One of the biggest sources of controversy has involved offside decisions where VAR officials use gridlines superimposed on the screen, leading to goals being disallowed because a player's toe or armpit was offside. The line is very thin and it's drawn by the VAR so it's the subjective line of an objective fact which is a bit strange," said Ceferin.
Lille will be the better rested of the two having not played a game since the 21st of December and Amiens will have to shuffle their pack again in order to freshen things up. The home side definitely upped the gears before Christmas and I think they will hit the ground running here and I’m going to tip a Lillie win with a –1 handicap.
Clubs promoted to the Premier League for the next two seasons will receive £8m less than expected. The reduction is because of a £330m rebate the league has agreed to pay broadcasters because of the temporary suspension of the current season due to the Covid-19 crisis. The Premier League agreed a deal with broadcasters that included a payment for greater flexibility over start and end dates to the next two seasons, the first of which will now begin later than planned.

Three of Osasuna’s last four matches have ended in over 2. They have one win in five home matches though the last two have produced clean sheets. Osasuna have failed to score in just one of their last eight home matches but they have one win in their last seven La Liga matches. In the last 15 league matches, they have managed just three clean sheets.
Match Day 23 in the Italian Serie A is here and Juventus will be looking to build on their 3-0 win over Fiorentina when they travel to Hellas Verona for the match at Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi. Going to the game, Hellas Verona are placed ninth with 31 points while Juventus top the standings with 54 points.
This time, his waiting room was a small technical area in a west London football stadium, where no visitors were allowed. He was alone. Back in Leicester, the entire city was a Champagne bottle, the cork suspended in that moment before it flies out and whacks the ceiling. Would tonight be the night it goes 'pop'? So I'm there, in the perfect commentary position at the Bridge. I can hear Pochettino screaming instructions at his players with a fearful tone.
Bristol City v Nottingham Forest: Follow live on BBC Sport 26 Jan 2024 — Bristol City are hosting Nottingham at Ashton Gate in the FA Cup fourth-round, with kick-off less than an hour away.
Celta Vigo will have been disappointed to come away with just a point last weekend following their 0-0 stalemate against Valladolid at Balaidos, although the result did inch Oscar Garcia's side closer to safety.
And Spurs started from a much higher base. Like White Hart Lane, Molineux is a grand old stadium in need of a major upgrade. At one point there was an idea to build somewhere new. This changed to scaling up the existing ground fairly quickly. But the cost of that, estimated to be anywhere between £50m and £100m, is high and the payback period, up to 25 years, long. Unlike Tottenham, Wolves cannot generate funds in the USA through a bond scheme, so the interest rate being quoted is more than 4%.
That match in October was the only time Liverpool dropped points in the current campaign. Important football game," Klopp added. Old Trafford was good example, not at our best because of their quality. We have to make it more likely we're at our best. Klopp was asked about Liverpool losing key players like Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane when the Africa Cup of Nations reverts to its usual slot in January and February next year.
I always dreamed of finishing my career here. Gomez, who won 78 caps for Germany before retiring from internationals two years ago, started his club career at Stuttgart, winning the Bundesliga in 2006-07, before moving to Bayern Munich, where he won the Bundesliga twice more and the Champions League once. Spells with Fiorentina, Wolfsburg and Besiktas followed before he returned to Stuttgart in 2017-18.
Big, strong and supremely reliable, Schmeichel's powerful and accurate throw contributed to many a Premier League goal for the Reds, while his trademark "starfish" saves kept out a number of certain goals at the other end of the pitch. Widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers ever, Schmeichel won five Premier League titles in his eight-year career at United before leaving for Sporting Lisbon and then spending a season each at Aston Villa and Manchester City at the end of his career.
A number of other clubs at the same level have since taken similar action, with League One side Doncaster following suit last week. Reading have also made use of the government's job retention scheme, with their women's side, men's under-23s players and a large number of non-playing staff placed on furlough. Moore said it was his job, as captain, to ensure team-mates were "100% comfortable in what they were signing up to".
Yes, Orkney play two games at Helmsdale and Kirkwall," explained North Caledonia FA in a tweet to bemused fans. They've had a lot of postponed games so have agreed to play twice. View more on twitterHistory makers? While not many teams face two league fixtures at the same time, Orkney wouldn't be the first to pick up two wins on the same day - or even the first from Scotland - should the day go well.

It was a second successive victory for Everton's new manager Carlo Ancelotti, who made his debut at Goodison Park with a 1-0 win over Burnley on Thursday when Calvert-Lewin netted a late winner for the Toffees. The 22-year old fired the visitors ahead in the 13th minute, sweeping the ball home from six metres after a deflected Gylfi Sigurdsson shot fell kindly for him.
The truth for football authorities everywhere is that there are no certainties at the moment and there will be setbacks. The only good news is that although there are a lot of fixtures to pack in, time is relatively on German football's side compared to the other big European leagues, who are still wondering if and when they'll be able to return. Now the DFL will be hoping that this will be the only fixture they'll have to postpone on their high profile re-opening weekend.
The 2011 census showed that about 14. England was from a BAME background, while in 2016, the Office for National Statistics estimated that the figure had increased to about 15. Similar breakdowns by ethnicity for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland are not currently available. Bhandari, who replaced founder Lord Herman Ouseley as the chairman of the anti-discrimination charity in 2019, added: "This is one initiative, but actually what you need is this replicated across 92 clubs.
Olympiakos lost their only previous away match against Tottenham - losing 4-0 in October 1972 in the Uefa Cup. Olympiakos have only won once in 14 away games against English teams in European competition (won one, drew one, lost 12), winning 3-2 vs Arsenal in September 2015 in the Champions League. TottenhamSpurs are unbeaten in their last five games in European competition against Greek teams (won three, drew two), having lost two of the previous three between 1972 and 2011 (drew one).
Now comes the replay and with home advantage, United will be hoping to get through to the next round where they would face League One side Oxford United at home. Newcastle have had an up and down season and after climbing into the top ten of the Premier League, slipped again with three straight league defeats.

Everton have been great in addressing poverty, too. Both clubs are doing the area proud. The wait for the title goes on but the suspension of the sport has given Greaves pause for thought. His role as an essential worker delivering vital healthcare protection products means that he drives around the deserted streets.
Then it went a bit wrong. Edinson Cavani was brought in from the cold and Icardi was left fighting for a starting a spot, with the Argentine completing 90 minutes just once in 2020. But that doesn't mean the Parisians want rid. Cavani is likely to leave (finally) in the summer, while there will be a summer siege for Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
We’re confident that a double chance bet on the visitors will payout on Thursday and we have predicted a final scoreline of 1-1. Basel have already beaten Thursday’s hosts in Group C but Krasnodar have improved in Europe since then and we are expecting a competitive ninety minutes in Russia. Basel are yet to lose in the group stage and have only lost two of their last eighteen matches in all competitions, and a point would be enough to book their place in the knockout stage but the visitors are more than capable of pinching a win which is why the double chance bet makes the most sense.
Fulham have not tasted victory for three matches now, a 1-1 draw at Derby being the latest result to prolong their winless streak. With the race for promotion being so competitive, they cannot afford to continue dropping points. Unless, of course, their rivals also drop points, which happens with regularity in the very open Championship.
Two players from the same Championship club have tested positive for coronavirus after more than 1,000 tests were carried out. The English Football League confirmed that of the 1,014 tests undertaken on players and staff at all 24 second-tier sides, all but two came back negative. The two players, who have not been named, will now self-isolate in line with guidelines provided by the EFL. Teams in the Championship are due to return to training on Monday.
Real is back at the fight for the playoff, after their recent victory at home, and they are now facing opponent that could be in tough position, since host did concede four times from Real in the first league duel. Madriz may not be in such big advantage, but they still can make it to to three points and victory here.
With just three goals scored away from home and 12 conceded, we're forecasting a home win to nil here considering Sevilla have kept a clean sheet in three of their last six league fixtures. Efficient rather than emphatic, Lopetegui's side have scored no more than twice across those games so we're also going for a 2-0 scoreline in Sevillistas' favour this Sunday.
The German international midfielder was approached by Real, but Borussia Dortmund informed him that they were not willing to let him go in the transfer window that saw the exit of both Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowksi. Paper Round’s view: Reportedly Gundogan was happy to join the Spanish side but was not given the chance, and given his injury problems perhaps he was kept away from such relentless press focus.
Four of the last five meetings between the two clubs have produced under 2.5 goals and the last three encounters between the pair have ended in draws with under 2.5 goals being scored on each occasion, so you can start to why we’re backing another low-scoring ninety minutes between the pair this weekend.
Sean Longstaff played the ball over the top of the defence and Joelinton finished with aplomb. GOAL! Oxford 1-2 Newcastle (Kelly): Oh my, what a strike! It's a gorgeous free-kick by Kelly. He gets it up and over the wall and back down again, the ball nestling in the top right corner. Game on! 90'+3 GOAL! Oxford 2-2 Newcastle (Holland): OHHH MY! What a goal! Holland levels the scores with the last kick of the game in normal time! And we are surely going to extra-time now! He launches a spectacular volley past Darlow from the edge of the box.

Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku condemn ‘Black Friday’ headline in Italian paper The paper accompanied the headline with a picture of Chris Smalling and Romelu Lukaku to preview the Friday night match between their respective clubs, Inter Milan and Roma. Above the headline, it read: "Lukaku and Smalling, former team-mates at Manchester United and today idols at Inter and Roma, this is the battle within the battle tomorrow with the scudetto and a Champions League place at stake.
MONDAY'S BIG STORIES Hodgson is absolutely spot on Roy Hodgson is a septuagenarian, his whole working life has seen him live in a multitude of countries. This is a man of experience, who is well placed to assess the status of the country at the moment. And in an open letter to Crystal Palace fans detailing the efforts the club have made to support the local community, the 72-year-old finishes off with some warm words for the National Health Service while also adding a reminder that it needs adequate funding.
We’re confident that both teams will score and over 2.5 goals will be produced in Wednesday’s match and we have predicted a final scoreline of 2-1 in favour of Bayern. The visitors head into the game as the form favourites and with an excellent recent record against their hosts. Freiburg have been good at home this season so we’re certainly not expecting a big win for Bayern but we do believe the visitors’ extra quality going forward will see them through to all three points.
Paper Round's view: Chelsea should be more patient with Kepa. He was bought as a long-term investment and he's still only 25 years old. When David De Gea joined Manchester United, he struggled in the Premier League, but then he became one of the best keepers in the world. It's unlikely that the west London club will recoup much of the £71 million fee they paid to Athletic Bilbao and he joined in 2018 so maybe Chelsea should keep him for another year and allow him to continue adapting to England.

SV Horn have lost 4 of their last 5 matches and is in very bad run of form right now. They are coming from a massive 7-2 defeat against Austria Wien and sit on 12th spot right now they have managed 15 points from 14 matches as well. They scored 29 goals and conceded 32 goals.
Man of the match - Jamie McCartBBC Scotland's Brian McLauchlin at McDiarmid ParkIn what was a fascinating match to watch, there are candidates from both sides. For the visitors, Kamberi showed he has a real talent for finding the net and may find himself in the XI in Braga in midweek. St Johnstone, to a man, were immense, with both goalscorers May and Hendry putting in terrific displays.
But a stalemate was probably the right result on a day when both sides had their moments but neither could conjure the sort of moment of quality required to break the deadlock. Relive Sunday's south Wales derbyA goal from Ben Wilmot had settled the reverse fixture at the Liberty Stadium in October, though Swansea might have won that game more comfortably having been in control for long periods. Neil Warnock was in charge of Cardiff at that stage, but it was a different story as Neil Harris sampled this fixture for the first time.
In a frantic spell in the second half, Lewis Wing levelled from 25 yards before Bryan Mbeumo restored the lead for the Bees. Boro levelled again three minutes later through Ashley Fletcher's header but Watkins struck from close range to seal the win. The result means Brentford remain in fourth and are two points behind third-placed Fulham and second-placed Leeds United. Brentford could drop to fifth depending on the result when Leeds take on fifth-placed Nottingham Forest in Saturday's late Championship fixture.
Nottingham Forest were thumped last weekend as Sheffield Wednesday tore them apart at the City Ground. Forest have slipped up in the top six fight as a result of that 4-0 home loss, but they sit just a point shy of the playoffs thanks to their strong start.

GENEVA, Jan 22 (Reuters) - Global football union FIFPro says it will support any soccer player who defies a International Olympic Committee (IOC) ban on political protests and statements during events at the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year. Describing the ban as hypocritical, FIFPro secretary general Jonas Baer-Hoffmann said that soccer players had played a key role in raising issues such as racism and gender equality and it would be "unacceptable" to sanction them for similar action during the Olympic soccer tournament.
